Team Projects (also known as Group Projects)

The team project (also called the group project) is designed to cultivate students' ability to work together with their peers, all of whom represent a diverse range of abilities, cultural backgrounds, and other personal characteristics. The ideal mix is one of cooperation and division of labor, for these are the cornerstones to successful teamwork. What can make the team project an especially fruitful learning experience is the fact that most teams are comprised of students who are thrown together without knowing each other from the past. This forces students to learn to work amicably and effectively with all sorts of people, just as they will have to know how to do when they enter the workforce.

Team projects can take place in both traditional classrooms and online settings. Although it might seem that the logistics would be far more difficult for the distance learner, this is in fact not necessarily the case. Conflicting schedules, wide variations in the amount of time each student has to devote to the project, and other issues arise regardless of the format of the class itself. Thus, although group projects in their ideal forms are ways for everyone to pull his or her weight and together come up with a dynamic product, the reality is often quite different. In the absence of skilled leadership, team projects are often heavily skewed in terms of workload, leading to resentment and demoralization.

However, a good team leader can ensure that this does not happen. For example, one student might know she has to miss class on the night of the given team presentation, and so the leader might encourage his or her peers to assume more responsibility on that night in terms of the actual presentation, and ask the team member who will not be there to prepare extra materials in order to make up for her absence. There are lots of possibilities along these lines; the key, again, is cooperation and division of labor, two things that are generally much harder to achieve than they seem.

Given the complex and sometimes delicate nature of team projects, it is critical that students who wish to seek help with them find an excellent, highly professional company with which to work. Only those academic writers who are experienced at managing the intricacies of team (group) projects should be trusted to do a good job.
