What if I’m really, really screwed?

The advice here is always to choose sleep and a good meal over perfection. If it all falls apart and you really, REALLY have to stay up all night, here are some tips to get through it without feeling terrible.

Sweets are great for a boost, but the old advice still applies: eat fruits, vegetables, and proteins, as well. Instead of the whole bag of candy cars or the entire half gallon, make yourself a sandwich, have an average serving of ice cream (or whatever) and pile up the carrot sticks, cucumbers, grapes, apple slices, or whatever, next to you computer.

Follow the same principle with caffeine. Don’t park your pop or coffee next to your computer. Instead, have a cup or glass while taking a 5-minute break. Drink your caffeinated beverage, stretch (or move your body however works for you), then when you return to your computer, take only a glass of water. Caffeine can make you a bit dehydrated, which will then make you sleepy. You don’t have to avoid it, but you need to support it with water and good food.

Take breaks! Not at your computer, though. Walk around, brush your teeth, wash your face, or any little thing to perk yourself up.

Good luck, and don’t let it happen again;-)
